The 19th is Mothering Sunday, traditionally, it was a day when children, mainly daughters, who had gone to work as domestic servants were given a day off to visit their mother and family. In the UK the day began as a church tradition, taking place three weeks before Easter on the fourth Sunday of lent. In other countries like the US, the day wasn’t based on religious tradition and is specifically referred to as Mother’s Day. It became an official US holiday in 1914 when then-President Woodrow Wilson declared the second Sunday in May as a day of ‘public expression of our love and reverence for the mothers of our country.’In our house my husband will only get a card with ‘Mothering Sunday’ for his mam (he’s Welsh) on it, this is often a difficult task as most cards have ‘Mum’ on the front and over the years we have spent hours in card shops looking for the right one, obviously with the internet it is a lot easier now. Whatever your plans I hope you have a lovely day, and I will be thinking of those who have lost their mums, as I imagine it can be a difficult time.March is always an optimistic month for me, as the trees start chaining and the days start to get longer, it is also a great month to start thinking about those jobs in the house. We have lots of great businesses who can help make your dreams a reality, whether it is a new bathroom or kitchen, garden make over or some fresh flooring, there is someone in the Beartown Voice who can assist, if you could tell them where you found them, we would be grateful.Ka xRemember to tell our advertisers you found them in Beartown Voice! To find out more visit our web sitehttps://www.larvinandclegg.co.ukIf you want to chat about our services please call us on 01260 297963Larvin & Clegg are a family run funeral directors proudly serving Congleton and the surrounding areas. WILL WRITING • WILL TRUSTS • ASSETS TRUSTPOWER OF ATTORNEY • INHERITANCE TAX PLANNINGTelephone 01270 667 912 or visit www.sanctuarytts.comSanctuary Tax & Trust Services Ltd, 41 Lawton Road, Alsager ST7 2AAAs the cost-of-living spirals and more of our children struggle to get a footing on the property ladder it is now more important than every to plan our family’s inheritance. The team at Sanctuary Tax & Trust explain how many families nd themselves victims of avoidable losses and why simply writing a will does not guarantee our family will inherit as we wish. For the vast majority of people, we spend all our lives working to build up wealth, through property, savings and pensions we look at providing nancial security for our families and when our nal day arrives, we hope these assets will pass to the people we care about the most, partners, children, relatives and friends. Traditionally, people have chosen wills to document their wishes and while writing a will is important, it does not provide any protection for the assets within it.Considerations when planning InheritanceCare Fees – As we live longer the likelihood of needing care becomes greater and under the government’s changes to the social care act should the need for care arise, we could see our asset taken down to just £14,250. The new assessment process will see everybody with property and savings over a combined value of £23,250 being required to pay for their care.Relationship Failure – When passing assets purely through a will we see many leaving their assets to their children but not giving consideration to what would happen if one of their children was to divorce. This can lead to a child seeing half of their inheritance in the hands of an ex-partner and in the event of early bereavement this can lead to grandchildren being disinherited.Inheritance Tax – The current IHT framework can be complex and unknowingly people can leave their children and even grandchildren with an Inheritance tax issue.Probate – The cost of probate as risen dramatically over the last few years, and it can be a lengthy and drawn-out process. On average, with a valid Will, probate will typically take 6 – 12 months to complete, without a Will it may can take up to 2 years. Its Never the Wrong Time To Do The Right Thing – While people appreciate that inheritance planning is important many will delay seeking the correct advice. By putting o arranging our aairs we run the risk of running out of time, or in the event o illness, seeing our options dramatically reduced. Why Sanctuary Tax & Trust Services? With over 20 years of experience in Estate and Inheritance planning we have helped families in the area protect their assets and plan their inheritance in the most cost-eective way. While the individual family’s circumstance may vary, the one constant is that each family aims to provide the maximum amount of inheritance possible without the stress of complexed legal jargon.

8Man about town...THIS month I would like to play a little game with you. It’s a “where am I?” puzzle. It’s a “money can’t buy” prize since there isn’t one.The answer lies somewhere ion Congleton. There’ll be clues and a photograph to help you. So let’s beginI’m starting at the western end of this well known Congleton street.Across the road from here Georgian villas shroud the town’s ancient graveyard from this thoroughfare. Their gaily painted walls provide a pleasant vista upon which to cast a weary eye. But we must turn our backs upon these magnificent houses and look towards the east.On the left is a row of bijou town centre cottages. How many families have lived here. What memories do their walls hold of small children playing in the street while dad was toiling in the mill and mum was busy keeping house? That was many years ago. More recently, the houses were rather more public. Generations of Congletonians have enjoyed their fair share of ale within those walls but only a small lantern bearing the moniker “Gibbs Mew” reminds us of its hostelry heritage. And now, lovingly restored to their original purpose, the buildings provide attractive homes for fortunate families.Over the road Peter and his saintly but silent friends reside. It’s a focal point for the town. Many of its people are dying to obtain plot there. Peter’s sundial is unerringly accurate. Positioned perfectly it tells the time more accurately than any device developed by NASA. I was there for the midday peel - the sundial confirmed the chimes went precisely punctual.Moving on and the grand home of a proud Congletonian hoves in to view. A blue plaque memorialises this mansion as his house. He spent time on St Helena guarding a 19th Century deposed European dictator as part of his distinguished military service. His front door looks just like Rishi’s - complete with a wonky “zero”. Coincidence?Further along and at the end of this charming little street we find the most curious feature of all. It looks like an ornate baptismal font embedded in an otherwise unremarkable wall. Was it a small on-street chapel like those often found across Europe. No, it’s not really a British tradition is it? And since the town’s full of beautiful churches I doubt there was ever a need for such a thing in Congleton. Sadly, the feature is in a state of dilapidation. Bricks lie on the pavement beside it fresh from their fall from its facade. But look more closely and maybe there’s a strong clue. This ruined monument has a water supply. And it’s right at the foot of one of the town’s steep inclines. Was this the last chance for wretched beasts of burden to slake their thirsts before climbing this hill with a back-breaking load? I suspect so.So, where am I? There’s no prize for guessing correctly. Of corset’s just for fun. I’ll give you the answer next month.Mark Edwardson

1212Katy meets... Larvin & GleggIN the short time I have been interviewing local businesses for the Arch Publication Podcast I have met so many interesting people. I believe everyone has a story to tell, and I really enjoy finding out about their journeys and passions as local business owners. This month I interviewed Jason and Abi, the owners at Larvin and Clegg Funeral Care; a couple who really love their jobs.Jason was 14 years old when he told his teachers during a career event that he wanted to be an undertaker, although he was much younger when he first decided this was his ideal job. He grew up in hilly rural West Yorkshire and was interested in nature; he always had a jam jar in his pocket to catch grasshoppers and ladybirds. He would head out with his friends in search of living things to investigate. One of the best places was graveyards, very often untouched for decades, filled with wild flowers and long grass; the perfect place to find unusual little creatures. He started to notice the large lumps of stone and became fascinated with what they marked beneath the surface. He also recalls being five years old and out walking with his mum when she insisted they stop to bow their heads as a funeral cortege passed by. The slow, solemn and respectful convoy of vehicles had an impact on him and he knew this was what he wanted to do.After he left school he wrote to all the local funeral directors asking for an opportunity, but in those days most of them were generational family businesses and didn’t recruit externally, so he found it very difficult. Deciding to change his direction and train as an embalmer when he was 21, he managed to get a work placement at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary within the mortuary. Following on from this experience he still struggled to get that first opportunity; however, he never gave up and after some time managed to get his break within a family run funeral service, where he completed his apprenticeship and finally became an undertaker.Abi’s career was very different. She trained to be a beauty therapist then spent time working in the industry. After a while she wanted to do something completely different and was offered an opportunity at a funeral directors. She was able to use her skills when caring for the deceased, doing their hair and makeup and dressing them in their own clothes, so they are ready for their loved ones to say their goodbyes. After a long time working for corporate funeral firms, the couple decided to set up their own company. They both had a separate set of skills which when united made them the perfect team. Abi is very organised and is an experienced manager. Jason is a qualified undertaker and embalmer, and they both have sensitivity and understanding, which is essential when arranging the funerals with the families or friends of the deceased. They are a family business through and through. Abi’s dad drives the hearse, and his cousin is a coffin bearer. Both Jason and Abi agree their line of work is not a job. It is not a career; it is a way of life. Their services are needed 24/7, 365 days a year, they are ready to be there for families on Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, Easter and in the middle of the night. Jason tells me that over the years there have been many times his Christmas dinner has been microwaved because they have been called and informed of a passing, because no matter what they are doing they put the families they deal with first.Larvin and Clegg’s office on Antrobus Street is tastefully decorated. The neutral greys and comfy sofa make it feel like a cosy lounge, it feels modern and welcoming. It is important to them that people feel comfortable in their environment; however, this can be difficult as the majority of people only need to visit them when making funeral arrangements, therefore they have an open day coming up on Saturday April 15th 10.30am – 4pm.Everyone will be welcome to have a look around. You can see the mortuary and the Chapel of Rest, ask questions and be better informed about the process they go through to get loved ones ready.Larvin and Clegg Funeral Care have been open now for three years and are now firmly placed in the community Abi grew up in, and as time goes on more and more people are getting to know about them, and they are finding that if people attend a funeral they arrange, they are then coming to them when they need their services. This is because they really do care. From the moment someone steps through the door, their clients are their priority, and they want to make this difficult time as easy as possible. My interview with Jason and Abi for our Podcast was fascinating, and if you would like to learn more then pop down and see them for some coffee and cake on their open day where you can ask questions and take a look around.KatyYou can listen to my interview with Jason and Abi as part of our Podcast series, scan the QR code , visit our website or through your podcast provider

16Let’s talk legal...SPRING – the season of love and cohabitation agreements. Love is in the air and with that comes the excitement of moving in with a partner or buying your first house together. Having decided to live with one another you may think that it is just a question of booking the removal company but if you are moving in with your partner, or if you are buying a property, it is important to make sure that you are both protected by a cohabitation agreement.Cohabitation agreements: Spring sees a big increase in inquiries about family law agreements. Often the initial inquiry is from a concerned parent wanting to ensure that their child’s hard-earned deposit is protected if the couple split up or the call comes from an adult child worried about what will happen to the family home now dad is talking about his partner moving into the property. Whatever the reason for the first contact with Evolve Family Law, enquiring about a cohabitation agreement is sensible planning, much like writing a new Will or Lasting Power of Attorney or checking your life insurance cover. These are all vital but boring bits of entering into a new chapter in a relationship.Family law agreements: Family lawyers can talk you through the different types of family agreement options including: • Declarations of trust between joint owners of a property as you can buy a property jointly either as tenants in common or as joint tenants. The type of joint property ownership you select has an impact if your relationship breaks down or on the death of a partner so it’s important to understand your options• Cohabitation agreements between cohabiting couples – an agreement can be prepared if you are buying a house together or if one of you is moving to your partner’s home• Prenuptial agreements between couples engaged to marry• Postnuptial agreements between married couples. For example, if a parent wants to gift their child money to pay off the mortgage on the family home but the parent wants to make sure that their money is protected in case of divorceWhatever type of family law agreement you choose for your circumstances it is just as important to make sure that your loved ones are protected with a new Will. That way if one of you passes away neither of you is left in a financial predicament because you did not ignore the boring bits associated with moving in together.Whilst the lawyers at Evolve can’t promise to make cohabitation agreements and Wills exciting, we can promise peace of mind for you and your loved ones. 18Community matters...THIS April local Business owner Mel Ratcliffe and her husband Ian will be undertaking a mammoth challenge to raise vital funds for the Douglas Macmillan Hospice in Blurton in honour and memory of Mel’s wonderful Dad Norm who very sadly passed after a sudden cancer diagnosis in January 2022.Mel is founder and owner of Bare Health in, Congleton and for anyone who frequents this lovely health store on High Street, will know that the business is very much a family affair with Mel’s Mum Sue a familiar face in her role as store manager and experienced holistic therapist. More importantly, Sue is the wonderful wife of Norm. In January last year, Norman was diagnosed with late stage Oesophageal cancer, a diagnosis that came as huge shock to the whole family and all who knew him, even more shocking was his passing just twelve weeks later in the care of the Douglas Macmillan Hospice. Naturally, the family have been left devasted by the loss of this wonderful man, an amazing Dad to Mel and her brother Rich, father in law to Ian and jo, grandie to Evie, William and Logan and soulmate to Sue.Now in it’s 50th year, Dougie Mac provides all hospice services free of charge to adults, young adults and children living with a life-limiting illnesses in Stoke-on-Trent, North Staffordshire and the surrounding villages whilst also offering supportive care for their families and carers. They help adults living with cancer and non-cancer life-limiting illnesses such as advanced heart failure, Dementia, motor neurone disease and incurable lung diseases.Their dedicated staff and volunteers make a huge difference to a patient’s journey; they are central to the care provided always going that extra mile to provide a warm, friendly and peaceful environment both at the hospice or in a family’s home. However, to be able to continue this amazing work the hospice is very much reliant on public fundraising and donations.Having witnessed first hand the amazing work of the team and the exceptional care they provided for Norm during the last two weeks of his life alongside the support offered to the family, Mel and Ian have planned and organised their own fundraising event in order that the hospice can continue to provide this vital service.Norm loved nature and the outdoors and throughout his life was a keen hillwalker, a love that he passed on to his children. With this very much in mind, on April 16th, Mel and Ian will embark on a challenge to walk the stunning Anglesey Coast path. Just over 130 miles in twelve days which is quite a feat! The event will also celebrate Norm’s birthday on the 17th of April whilst also marking the first anniversary of passing on the 18th.Together Mel and Ian hope to raise over £2000 for the Douglas Macmillan. All donations no matter how big or small are very gratefully received. So how can you donate? Simply pop by Bare Health and fill in the donation form or head over to just giving www.justgiving.com/fundraising/melanie-ratcliffe3 or scan the QR code on this page.Mel, Bare Health

22BUILDING the power of your mind with mindfulness meditation. This is an easy and fun practice to do, that allows us to put aside our serious intentions for a while and simply have some fun whilst still being able to broaden our experiences in a positive way.The mind is a powerful tool. In mindfulness practice, you learn to train and work with this tool in an intentional, focused way. This practice lets you play with the power of your mind, showing you how to gently coax it in different ways. You’ll also witness the mind’s auditory and visual thinking patterns.Bring some playfulness and curiosity to this practice, and try not to take yourself too seriously. For this practice, you will need to close the eyes.Take a moment to notice how the body is resting.Keep the spine as straight as possible and allow the muscles to relax. With eyes closed, try to bring to mind the room or space in which you are sitting. Can you picture where in the room your body is resting?Try to visualise the room in your mind.Using the power of your mind, picture the floor, the walls, and any doors.See what else you can bring up to piece together the space in your mind.Letting go of the room, picture yourself somewhere peaceful. It may be a beach, a forest, or wherever your “happy place” is.In the same way, picture the space around you.Try to bring up as many details as possible.Letting go of the visualisation, bring to mind a song or tune you know well.Try to hear the words or melody in your head. Now use the mind to change the experience of hearing the song.Try to turn the volume down, making the song quiet in your head.Turn the volume up a bit.Investigate what it is like to slow the song down or speed it up.Pause for a moment at the end of this practice to recognise the power of your own mind. With a small amount of effort, you can conjure up visualisations, play music, and alter the experience in any way you choose!Mike HollandMind Being YouPower of the mind...

26Emotional meanings of colour...COLOUR affects our lives on a profound scale; from our perception of the world around us, the choices we make in our homes and how we dress, how we wish to appear to others and even our mood and well-being. Do your surroundings influence your state of mind? A calming sanctuary or a place that especially annoys you. There is a strong chance that the colours in those locations are playing a part. My clients sometimes say they see certain colours as they gain deep relaxation during their reflexology and I have often wondered at this connection. Before I trained as a Reflexologist I had a career as a Graphic Designer in the advertising industry. In the design of product packaging and promotional material, colour psychology in relation to human behaviour is integral. Colour affects our decisions in the items we buy, why we are drawn to one brand over another, why the colour of an icon makes us more likely to click on it. In the world of ‘influencers,’ colour has, by far, the most followers!Colour evokes feeling and emotion and this may differ in interpretation with gender, culture, past experiences etc. For example, white in many western countries represents innocence and purity, but in some eastern cultures it is a symbol of mourning. There are, however, some effects of colours that have universal associations to our emotions and mood. Warm hues evoke feelings ranging from comfort and warmth to anger and hostility. Cool colours can be calming but also bring feelings of sadness or indifference. Symbolic Meanings of Colour• Red – passion, love, excitement, strength, energy, anger, danger• Pink – reserved, soft, kind, sincere, weakness, immaturity• Purple – glamour, nobility, mystery, ambition, luxury, compassion• Blue – peace, hope, wisdom, trust, loyalty, competence, tranquillity• Green – nature, fresh, growth, healing, quality, envy, balance• Yellow – hope, creativity, happiness, warmth, joy• Orange – kindness, joy, confidence, bravery, sociability• White – truth, indifference, simplicity, innocence, honesty, isolation• Black – noble, mysterious, cold, dramatic, security, formality Your likes and dislikes of certain colours reveal something about your personality. Think about the colour you like to wear or the colour-scheme in your home. Are you a blue personality – reliable and trustworthy, a cheerful, creative yellow personality or a confident, optimistic red? The power and symbolism of colour is a wonderful mix of psychology and spiritualism. A rare space where academic, scientific theory blends seamlessly with the world of spiritual chakras and auras. Whether your are selling a certain brand of fizzy drink or searching for inner harmony; you are pretty much on the same page! I do not profess to be an expert in any way, but from a client saying “I’ve been seeing a lot of greens today” during her reflexology, it has led me on this fascinating journey to find out more about colour and what it means to us.Jan Johnson Reflexology

30Katy meets... KW KitchensONE frosty morning in January, I took a trip to the lovely town of Nantwich to visit KW Kitchens in their new showroom at Pillory House Coffee Shop and Gallery based at 18 Pillory Street. The benefit of the showroom being positioned in a coffee shop, which is a licensed venue serving a delicious range of breakfasts, lunches and hot and cold drinks, is that before I get chatting to Roger the owner, I am able to warm up by tucking into a tasty full English and a mug of tea.Pillory House is a historical building only a five-minute walk from one of the town’s main car parks at Love Lane, and alongside the coffee shop and showroom there is also a gallery selling gifts and art, including works from award-winning artist Lucy Pittaway, famous for her imaginative paintings of sheep and cows. KW Kitchens is a family business which has been trading for 12 years, and Roger tells me since starting the business they built their customer base through their website and would visit clients in their homes, showing them the ranges of tops and cupboards. When Roger and his wife took over the coffee shop and gallery late last year, adding the kitchen showroom was a priority.Roger keeps on top of trends as the manufacturers bring out different colours. He explains that when he first started in the industry, people went for more beiges and creams, now customers like bolder tones like blues and greens. He often designs them with two strong colours that complement each other. Worktops have also moved on from lamination, granite, and quartz to acrylics, which is a hardwearing engineered kitchen surface material. Acrylics are a great option for worktops as they can be seamless and you can have matching backsplashes moulded. They are also available in a large range of colours, styles and finishes. When it comes to design, Roger spends time with his customers working with them on ideas, and having the showroom means he can have on-display a large range of kitchen doors and worktops samples for inspirations on colours and style. Roger points out that a customer doesn’t always need a whole new kitchen as KW Kitchens specialises in renovations, this means they can very often work with the units already in place, refreshing the kitchen with new doors and tops. This can often save money and the inconvenience of removing everything from the old kitchen. However, his team are experts at the whole kitchen refurbishment journey, his son also works for the business, and they can do every part from the electrics to the tiling. He makes sure everything is planned out and customers don’t have to wait around for different tradespeople to come and go. This planning also means the disruption is kept to a minimum and customers can soon get back to day-to-day life, with the luxury of a fabulous new kitchen. As a customer comes into Pillory House, Roger excuses himself and gets back to work. With a kitchen being the heart of the home and the room we probably spend the most time in, it is important that it fits around our individual lifestyles, and the expertise and experience Roger and his team have gives me confidence they are the perfect business for the job. The showroom is perfectly placed for customers to take a trip into Nantwich, have some lunch and plan their perfect kitchen. To start designing your dream kitchen go to www.kwkitchens.co.uk.Katy

32A day in the shoes of a podiatrist...EVER wondered what a podiatrist does? If you were a fly on the wall, what kind of foot problems would you expect to see? Here’s a quick peek into a working day of a podiatrist.Podiatrists do cool stuff and meet some very cool people. We treat people of all ages from toddlers to people in their hundreds! We get to chat with and help people from all walks of life. The wonderful thing about being a podiatrist is we can become someone’s hero in a matter of minutes! There’s not many professions where someone walks into your office in pain and walks out telling you they feel like they’re walking on air! Of course, this is not always the case, but our aim is always to help someone to manage their condition, feel better and move more easily.Like other medical professions, Podiatry has different specialisms. Musculoskeletal podiatrists treat pain that is more than skin deep such as heel pain, arthritic problems, or sports injury. NHS podiatrists treat high risk diabetic or vascular patients and people with foot ulcers. Some specialise in paediatrics, dermatology, rheumatology, or nail surgery. All podiatrists are trained to give anaesthetic and provide minor surgery. Some even become Podiatric (foot & ankle) surgeons.Podiatrists may work in clinics, hospitals, nursing homes, prisons, M.O.D, or for sports teams.A typical day at Ayres Health varies depending on the patient list. We arrive early to set up clinic and sterilise instruments ready for patients, check emails and respond to enquiries.Anna is a general podiatrist, and her patients range from older people with nail problems or painful corns, working mums on their feet all day, children with verruca’s, people with diabetes or vascular problems to footballers with ingrown toenails.Andrew treats musculoskeletal conditions in the lower limb. His patients range from runners with an injury, anyone with heel, foot or ankle pain and older patients with arthritic problems affecting mobility. He works with patients in his rehab gym providing video gait analysis, exercise plans and adapting orthotics (insoles).Between patients we write up our clinical notes, referral letters to other practitioners or treatment plans for patients. When not treating patients, we’re working on the business and may be ordering stock, updating policies & procedures, designing information leaflets, writing a blog for the website, or updating our social media. We don’t claim to have a glamorous career, but Podiatrists love what they do because we have a varied day that primarily involves helping to free people from their foot pain to walk with comfort and confidence again! 38Congleton’s heritage...LOCAL directories? Every town ought to have one, surely. A community needs to know about itself, its amenities, and governance - learn something historical perhaps (no, definitely), and find listings of its tradespeople and professionals. Identity and convenience combined. So then, a modern concept? No, not at all!Remarkably, a pioneer edition for Cheshire was published way back in…1789. That’s an incredible 234 years ago. This 18th century version makes a fascinating forerunner to today’s Beartown Voice. Comparisons are surprising. One of the very first of its kind, it was assembled and written by Chester printer (and ambitious author) William Cowdroy. Choosing a not-so-snappy title ‘The Directory and Guide for the City and County of Chester’ it was subtitled ‘With a Concise History’. This, however, was around twenty pages long! Despite that, the compilation was intended to ‘blend amusement with information’. Even though Chester-centric, sixteen other towns are featured, including Wrexham. Congleton rates a short entry.‘This town is seated on the river Dane… Here are two churches, one in the town, the other at the bridge-end, on the opposite side of the river. A silk manufactory and a silk mill give employment and bread to several hundred people.’ The only other observation made is ’the town is neat and has a charter of incorporation.’ Besides Saturday being the weekly market day, four annual fairs are noted: the Friday before Shrove Tuesday, and 12th May, 13th July, and 22nd November. What did he have to say about inhabitants and occupations of Georgian-era Congleton? Cowdroy listed these by street. Amongst the regular businesses some of the more unusual really bring its commerce to life. On Lawton Street were Widow Fearnley, a pipe maker, whilst Widow Jackson and Son were ribbon-merchants there. Reverend Mr Ralph Thomas Brookes was also both grocer and alderman. In search of a surgeon-apothecary? Three here on Hightown, near John Robinson, a perfumer. The oddly-named Square Clark worked as ‘hardware-man’. On Swan Bank John Wilkinson served at the Black-Lion and Swan Inn, whilst on Mill Street Humphrey Newton was your ‘breeches-maker’. Chapel Street housed four reverends. Meanwhile, on Moody Street were a gentleman, an attorney, a merchant and a maltster. What a mix!Cowdroy’s monumental effort was not freely distributed. Priced at one shilling (equivalent to around £6.50 now) the single volume was available from only seven outlets within and just outside the county. Nearest place to purchase this ‘pocket companion’? Mrs Rhodes, bookseller in Middlewich. Many advertising directories followed, these days still as valuable. But certainly more concise!Julie Elizabeth Smalley

40A Cheshire musical gem...WHERE would we be without music? And live music in particular? In an ever- changing world, Clonter feels that the arts play a pivotal role in helping people through challenging times. Set in the heart of the Cheshire countryside, Clonter is a delightfully quirky and intimate venue offering a wide range of musical events. You can take your pick from folk and gospel, to opera and jazz, and afternoon teas with songs from the shows. It also offers a ‘relaxed afternoon tea’ for those in care homes, being cared for at home, and their carers.Clonter is only a 10-minute drive from Congleton and provides plenty of free parking right outside the theatre in Swettenham Heath. Some people think Clonter events take place outdoors and only in the Summer, but there are performances throughout the year in its 400 seat auditorium.Priding itself on being a one-stop entertainment shop, Clonter combines musical events with several dining options, including pre-performance or interval suppers, or you can take your own picnic to enjoy in one of the indoor picnic areas, with the option to picnic outside in the Summer. The venue is also available to hire for performances, conference and business events, private parties and weddings, with exclusive use of its auditorium, a range of function rooms, two kitchens, dressing rooms, plenty of outdoor space and a fully licensed bar.The theatre was established in 1974 and provides professional development opportunities for emerging artists, orchestral players, designers, technicians and costume makers. Each year 2000 children take part in it’s Musical Theatre Workshops and Performance Projects as part of its Educational Outreach Programme. It is also committed to being as green as possible and aims to be a plastic free venue by the end of 2023, and the first theatre to qualify for an Environmental Quality Mark in this part of England. Clonter offers FREE tickets to those 26 years and under, anyone attending a food bank, NHS workers, people who are part of the Tickets for Good Scheme. To book tickets or for more information visit www.clonter.org or call the Box Office on 01260 224 514.
