4Remember to tell our advertisers you found them in Beartown VoiceOver the recent two months, my life has witnessed a whirlwind of change, making it quite a challenge to keep pace. One of the most monumental shifts was our relocation to a new home, an endeavour that was as demanding as it was transformative. Often cited as one of life's most stressful experiences, my encounter with moving has resoundingly armed this belief. This event triggered an extensive de-cluttering phase, for which I owe gratitude to the local Facebook giveaway groups and St. Luke's on Wheelock Street, Middlewich for their willingness to accept children's toys. The astonishing quantity of items we had gathered over the years was a revelation. The process involved countless trips to the waste disposal site, renting a skip, and despite this, we still managed to ll the loft of our new home. Although we are progressively settling in, the process is ongoing and evolving.Another signicant development was receiving a diagnosis of ADHD in December. At the age of 46, realising that I have Attention Decit Hyperactivity Disorder, which often presents dierently in women, was enlightening. Looking back on a lifetime of feeling persistently overwhelmed, this diagnosis brings a sense of understanding that I previously lacked. Although I wish this realization had come earlier, to foster a better comprehension of myself, the insight I now possess is liberating. My journey of learning about ADHD is in its infancy, and with every piece of information I uncover, I nd more aspects that resonate with my experiences. This diagnosis has opened a new chapter in my life, lled with self-awareness and potential. As I navigate this path of discovery and adaptation, my outlook towards the future is brimming with positivity and a new-found appreciation of my unique strengths and capabilities.I took forward to the discoveries the next few months bring and I hope you have a year of new beginnings too.KatyTake a fresh look at your business in 2024 6Congleton RUFC a brief history... 10Let’s talk legal... 12Congleton’s Heritage 14Bridging The Gap, Mind Matters 18Man About Town 22Are you getting enough? 24To paint, or not to paint, that is the ceiling! 26How to Clear Your Brain Fog? 28Days Out & Meals Out reviews 34Ready Reference 38Welcome & ContentsContact Beartown VoiceKaty O’Regankaty@archpublications.comDavid Crawforddavid@archpublications.comFor all enquires & bookingsCall or Whatsapp 01477 518 252Visit archpublications.comBusiness InsightsScan to Listen & Subscribearchpublications.com/podcastArch Publications Charity Partner 2024, visit www.BTG-mindmatters.org

6Quite often, the new year brings a renewed focus and positivity for all of us. We look to the next 365 days as a chance to press the reset button and change some of our lifestyles. It is, traditionally, a time of change. For businesses, it is no dierent. I’m not saying that if your business is running a coee shop that you should decide to open an estate agency suddenly but whilst the mood of change is front and centre in your thoughts, it’s a good time to dust o your original business plans and see what can be achieved and what has to change. It can be small things like looking at your shop front outside. Anything that can be made just a little better? Even a small improvement is an improvement. Have you looked at your branding recently? A fresh look for a new year can be a positive thing and act as a springboard for other plans. But also, in this digital world, staying connected to the community you Take a fresh look at your business in 2024 Rich Wilcockmost likely serve, looking at your social media and understanding where it can be improved can work wonders for engagement. It acts as a window into your world and no matter what kind of business you run, people will be interested in what you’re oering if you show them. In fact, 86% of loyal customers will refer others to a business and many of those will do that via social media now.And as we are all in that mood for change, now is the time to look at the things you’ve been putting o for a little while. Revisiting your processes internally is a good start. Where can those little things you do every day be improved. It never needs to be huge wholesale changes, we all know how busy we are running the actual business and often, it is not needed, but taking a step back can certainly mean taking a step forward.Fundamentally though, take the opportunity to write down some goals you want for your business for 2024. A resolution if you will. It doesn’t even have to be something so rigid. A word that you want your business to encapsulate for the year ahead can be just as eective. But write them down nonetheless and make sure you look back on them at stage through the year. Focus is important. As a community, we have a role to play. Near where I live, there is a farm shop which proudly states it serve the best apple pies in Cheshire. I’ve meant to pop in as I’ve driven past for the last four months and buy one. Alas, I’ve yet to do so. So, take this opportunity during the traditionally quiet couple of months and visit some of the fantastic businesses we have in this part of the world. I know I’ll be tucking into an apple pie this weekend.

10Congleton Rugby Union Football Club: the hidden gem in the heart of town on Park Street in CongletonDating back to 1860, Congleton RUFC is one of the earliest rugby clubs not just in England, but the world. It may be small, but we believe it to be perfectly formed and its mission to be the best little club in the area is one that we hope our rapidly growing town can really get behind.Whether it’s playing the great game that interests you, or coming down to watch on a weekend, or simply enjoying a competitively priced pint in our cosy club house (or all three if you want), then we believe that Congleton RUFC is the place for you.Congleton RUFC has a number of dierent playing sections to suit all ages and abilities, whether you’ve played the game before or if it’s something you’d like to try for the rst time. Please use the contact information below if you’re interested; you’ll be assured of a warm welcome.First XV – Representing the town in the NOWIRUL Division 2 South league (with matches most weekends either at home or in the surrounding area), the rst team play an attractive and competitive style of rugby that saw them challenging for promotion last season.Second XV – a slightly more relaxed but no less competitive team that plays in the NOWIRUL Division 4 East league most weekends.Training: Tuesdays and Thursdays 20.45-21.45 at Congleton High School. Matches: Saturday afternoons Contact: Director of Rugby: Lee Pickles (directorofrugby@congletonrufc.co.uk)Congleton RUFC a brief history...by Congleton Rugby Union Football ClubVeterans Rugby – open to players over 35 years in age, the emphasis is far more on the cultural and social side of the game, though the matches are no less gritty for that. For gentlemen of such advanced years, however, eective post-match hydration is the core focus.Training: optional and not recommended. Matches: occasional. Contact: Darren Cashmore (cashyd@sky.com)Mini & Juniors – Congleton RUFC has a burgeoning and lively youth section across many age groups (from Under 6 upwards), from whom many of the future senior players will one day come. The club also has strong links with many of the primary and secondary schools in the area. Open to boys and girls alike, the emphasis is on teamwork, skills, respect and discipline with non-contact rugby for the younger age groups, developing into the full game as they progress into their teenage years.Training: Sunday mornings (when no matches have been arranged). Matches: Sunday mornings. Contact: Hayley Royall (mandjchair@congletonrufc.co.uk)Girls’ Rugby – the club recently created a Girls’ section for teenagers up to 15 years old. We have been impressed with the numbers that have come down to play and are hoping to grow this section in the coming months and years, with the aim of commencing competitive xtures in the short to medium term. What about matches? If watching is your thing, then you’ll usually nd the seniors playing at home two to three times a month on Saturday afternoons. The games are played on the park pitch (by the bandstand), and sometimes on Hankinson’s Field behind the Leisure Centre. For full details of dates and times of xtures, make sure you check out the Club website, www.congletonrufc.co.ukYou’ll nd plenty of supporters down there, but there’s always room for more. The Club House - Whether you want to enjoy a drink after the game, or just pop in for a pint and a chat, the Club House is open to everyone (club members and the general public) on Friday evenings, Saturday afternoons and Sunday lunch/early afternoon. With our large screen TVs, it’s a fantastic venue to come down to watch rugby as well. The recent Rugby World Cup was a huge success, with standing room only for the semi-nals and nal. We’re also hoping to repeat that for the Rugby Six Nations tournament that starts in February. Where better to watch than at the Rugby Club?Recently refurbished with the aid of local grants and fundraising by club members, it’s a warm and welcoming venue. With an upstairs function room, the club house is also available for hire: a great venue for your children’s party, business event, or club meeting. Contact for hiring details: Chris Gledhill (chrisgledhill@congletonrufc.co.uk)

12If you are a parent or grandparent involved in a child arrangement order application there is a legal requirement to keep the court proceedings condential. At Evolve Family Law our solicitors understand that in an age of sharing how we feel, parents may feel there is nothing more natural to post on social media about the court proceedings concerning their child. It might be to vent frustration at the contents of their ex-partner’s court statement or to express disbelief at what was said at an interim hearing of a child arrangement or specic issue order application.Problems with children law proceedings and condentiality are not limited to social media posts. If you have received a report from a CAFCASS ocer tasked with making a recommendation on the future living arrangements for your Let’s talk legal...Evolve Family Lawchild, and you don’t agree with the report, it is tempting to go through the report with a family member or a friend over a coee or beer. You may not intend the conversation to go any further but invariably something is said and it eventually gets back to your ex-partner.You may think ‘so what’ as what you said was true but it is the sharing of court papers, such as statements or reports, or revealing what was said in children law proceedings that could get you into trouble. That’s because court rules forbid any party in children law proceedings from disclosing information about the court case unless authorised to do so by the family law judge. The idea behind the rule is to protect your child from gossip and to keep what should be private to you and your family condential. As family law solicitors we recognise that it can be stressful to be involved in children law proceedings and you may feel the need to sound o. Often the consequences of revealing statements led in court proceedings are unintended but it can change the approach of the court to a child arrangement order application. For example, a judge might question your approach to parenting more closely if they think you have outed court rules on condentiality and cannot see the harm this may do to your child.Keeping condence is hard work but as family law solicitors it is something that is ingrained in us. If you can’t trust your family lawyer to keep things condential then who can you trust? What we say is that if you are involved in a children law application, or you are a grandparent or friend being used as a sounding board, it is crucial to keep the secret, whether or not you agree with the court condentiality rules and the reasons behind them.

14Putting recent scandals aside… for a couple of centuries now the Post Oce has enjoyed quite a role in managing the spread of information. Insights from historical documents show this public service to be remarkably ecient, and hours of operation truly astonishing. What was notable in Congleton’s own story? Which locals contributed? Postmaster exactly two hundred years ago was Samuel Sherratt. His team handled round-the-clock duties… the London Mail arriving nightly at 12:30, and the Birmingham at an unappealing Congleton’s HeritageHistory article byJulie Elizabeth Smalley4am. From Manchester it was 4pm, Liverpool was evenings at 6. Congleton’s population in the early 1850’s was just under 13,000. Serving them, the Post Oce was by 1858 under Thomas George Sheldon’s supervision, and in West Street. Timetables were dauntingly specic. Letters arrived twice daily – 4 am and 4pm. Despatch was scheduled for 10 am (excepting London) and again at 10pm, including London. Accordingly customers were warned the letterbox closed at 9:30 each morning and evening. However, all hope wasn’t lost, because ‘letters may be forwarded the same day until within ve minutes of each despatch, provided they bear an additional stamp’. Impressive.Action wasn’t conned to town. Hardy employees fanned out across outlying countryside to get essential correspondence delivered. In 1864 a brigade of foot-messengers left Congleton each morning at 6 o’clock. No slacking... details on ‘Rural Messengers and Their Respective Routes’ were published in the town’s directory! People knew who – and when - to expect. Astbury was the circuit of James Pemberton, Bosley - William Simms, Thomas Johnson had Brindley Ford, Samuel Davenport had Brereton, whilst for Daisy Bank it was John Fitzpatrick. All returned around 7pm, Monday to Saturday, with William Simms undertaking an additional, Sunday lunchtime shift.By 1878, now on the High Street, PO business looked even more ocial. ‘The Post, Money Order & Telegraph Oce, also Savings Bank & Government Annuity & Insurance Oce’ surely proved a challenge for signwriters! Still run by Thomas George Sheldon this complex hub was fully prepared, amongst various transactions, to pay out money orders until 6pm weekdays and up to 7pm Saturday evenings. By 1902, transferred to Mill Street, greater attention was paid (sound familiar?) to express delivery – and Parcel Post. Furthermore, a Telegraph Oce was available an amazing twelve hours each day (8 till 8) and even two hours on a Sunday morning (8 till 10). Also three sub-Post Oces had opened doors.Whereas today’s PO counters are often tucked away, the former institution played a central, vital part in linking communities. Were these key workers your ancestors?

18“Happy new year”. I must have heard that said a dozen times if not more in the last few weeks, of course I always smile and exchange pleasantries, but within that brief exchange I take a moment to look at the person and wonder, will they really have a happy new year? With 1 in 4 adults now known to be struggling with their mental health, I know the chances are that during my day I’ve wished a happy new year to at least one person who’s struggling. I often wonder how dierent the world would be if mental ill health was visible. Maybe a small mark, or blemish, just a subtle sign that someone was struggling.Would we treat it dierently? Be able to identify and manage it sooner? Would there be adequately funded services? Would less people lose their lives? Would people wear their mark as a badge of honour; proud of their survival instead of shameful of their suering? Whilst you might not be able to see if someone is struggling you can sometimes notice it when they talk. So I’ve started taking a little more time to ask people if they have plans for the year ahead, what they’re looking forward to, and it’s opened the conversation of what i’ve been up to and what I’m looking forward to, and of course I often lead with what’s planned for BTG, it’s like a gentle nudge, that if they’re not quite ok, they don’t have to speak to me about it, Can you help? Vicky,Bridging The Gap Mind Mattersbut there’s a condential service right there that’s available if they need it. One of the hardest yet most exciting parts of BTG’s growth in the last year is the development of our team and our individual roles.I used to be the person wearing all of the hats which I knew was never sustainable as we grew.Relinquishing some of that responsibility would be both relieving whilst also slightly heart wrenching. Like watching your child get all grown up!So I had to make a decision about whether I wanted to sit at the top and oversee the goings on, or be on the ground doing the day to day operations. It was a no brainer for me, I love helping people. It’s not possible to put into words the fullment and pride that comes with contributing to what we do here. Knowing you helped save someone’s life, every person is a daughter, brother, father or friend. It’s a feeling that can’t be bought with money, it’s non comparable and you just don’t get it, until you do. It’s what I’ve known I wanted to do since I recovered from my breakdown and founded the charity. So it is what I do. My main role now is physical therapy onboarding and public relations.I still get to directly help people, I travel all over the UK hand picking the most incredible community focused gyms and local groups and register them to provide sessions for us. I also do a lot of mental health speaking events for local businesses and organisations. These usually result in 1 or 2 people getting some help through the charity. If you would be interested in hosting a talk for your team please do get in touch. As the charity continues to grow we’re looking for more volunteers to assist us, if you have some exible time available and are looking for something incredible to do with it, just visit our website www.BTG-mindmatters.org.uk and ll out the “get more info” form expressingyour interest. Take a look at www.BTG-mindmatters.org to complete an application.Do you or someone you know need support with their mental health?

22During an idle mooch along Lawton Street a scaolding-clad Bradshaw House pricked my curiosity. Being nosy I thought I’d take a look around. And I discovered a hidden gem. Some will be aware there’s large garden at the rear of Bradshaw House complete with an arched, ornamental stone seat set below the Congleton Bath House.I’d seen the square, two storey bath house from Lowe Avenue a few times. But I hadn’t taken the time to give it a good, long look. Luckily for me it was a Monday and volunteers were working furiously to restore the garden and the Man About To wnMark Edwardsonbuildings. I’m the son of a builder and I knew presenting a packet of delicious custard creams would break the ice. I wasn’t wrong.I was welcomed with open arms. The 15-strong Congleton Building Preservation Trust is restoring the bath house and creating a “physic garden”. “We came very, very close to losing the Bath House,” the trust’s Chair, John Cockell told me. “It was abandoned and derelict. It would all have gone if the trust hadn’t stepped in in 2001.”The Bath House is a square, two storey Georgian structure. The lower oor has a plunge pool. Currently dry, it was fed fed by a natural spring. And it would have been very chilly as John explains, “In that period of history cold water bathing was considered very good for health.”But don’t go thinking the Bath House was a gift to the town from the inuential Bradshaws. “This was a high end Georgian luxury. It was denitely not for the people of Congleton,” John told me.The Bath House is a very rare survivor from the Gerorgian period. Upstair is the “warming room”. After bathing, family members and special guests would have dried o in front of a roaring re. At the moment the room bears the hallmarks of a Victorian remodelling. The trust’s next project is to restore the room to its original Georgian grandeur.Overlooking the garden is a beautiful arched stone seat from the early Nineteenth Century with a vaulted ceiling, curved bench and the face of Bacchus, the Greek god of wine. It would have provided the wealthy Bradshaw family with a magnicent view across the town. John said. “You have to imagine it without trees. It would have been a magnicent site. If anyone has any illustrations of the Nineteenth Century Bradshaw House we’d love to see them”. Earlier, I mentioned the Bath House and it gardens were the exclusive territory of the wealthy Bradshaws. Well, no more. The Congleton Building Preservation Trust is planning an open day in May so Congletonians can see how work on the Grade 2 listed building’s progressing. The developing “physic garden” will provide visitors with a rare chance to touch and smell various unfamiliar and traditional herbs and owers. It’s also becoming a haven for wildlife. The Congleton physic garden is open all year and is free to enter. If, like me, you’ve overlooked this gorgeous green lung’s existence you’ll be very pleasantly surprised by what you’ll nd.

24The start of a New Year often sees many people embarking on new health regimens and embracing a number of dietary changes with a view to enhancing their overall health and wellbeing.‘Veganuary’ has become synonymous with the month of January with the aim of promoting the benets of plant based eating and encouraging people to try out a Vegan diet in the New Year and many, pledge to ditch the meat, eggs and dairy for plant based foods. Its benets are extolled far and wide on various social media platforms and more importantly, science is now backing up many of the reported health benets. However, it is important to note that alongside these many benets research has also highlighted a number of limitations of a vegan diet which need to given careful consideration when making the change from a more meat based to plant based diet. Limitations such as reduced caloric intake and nutritional deciency of essential fats, proteins, vitamins and minerals. Its vital to be aware of such pitfalls and to plan well to avoid any potential dietary shortfalls.Ask yourself ‘Am I Getting Enough?’ Enough of the key nutrients to maintain an optimum level of health and to avoid deciency whilst consuming a broad spectrum of foods to ensure you’re getting a good balance of nutrients from a variety of sources. Other questions to ask yourself may be ‘Do My Current Food Choices Provide All The Necessary Nutrients?’ ‘Are They Healthy Choices?’ ‘What’s Missing?’ ‘Are there shortfalls which may lead to deciency?’ Certain nutrients aren’t readily available in a vegan diet. Sometimes it’s just a matter of careful planning and ne tuning to ensure that you’re covering all bases. There are lots of vegan oerings available in supermarkets nowadays and some need to be approached with caution. Read the labels. Many of them are highly processed and not as healthy as they make out. Make these the foods you opt for on occasion and not rely on for your regular food source.Vegan Essentials - a list of key nutrients to ll potential gaps:B12 – found predominantly in foods of animal origin and plays important roles in blood formation and nervous system. A deciency may occur through poor absorption or insucient amounts through food. To prevent this vegans need to incorporate reliable B12 sources either through food or quality supplementation. Broccoli, asparagus, beansprouts, tempeh, nori, edible algae such as chlorella and spirulina, fortied foods such as nutritional yeast and cereals are good sources but levels may vary from food to food and depending on the source some may only contain trace amounts.Vitamin D: Crucial for bone health and mineral absorption, Vitamin D is scarce in vegan diets and hard to obtain from food. Sun exposure is a primary source, but in regions with less sunlight, supplementation is advised.Protein: A key concern in vegan diets is getting enough high-quality protein, which means adequate essential amino acids. Combining various plant foods like legumes (chickpeas, edamame, lentils), tofu, tempeh, and quinoa can full these needs. Vegan protein powders are also useful additions.Essential Fats: Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids are vital for heart, brain, eye, and skin health. Vegan sources include axseeds, chia seeds, hemp seeds, walnuts, seaweed, and algae. Quality vegan omega 3 supplements are also available.Calcium: Sources include sesame seeds, tahini, tofu, green leafy vegetables (kale, broccoli), Chinese cabbage, bok choi, and fortied dairy-free milks.Iodine: Critical for preventing hypothyroidism, iodine can be scarce in vegan diets. Sources include sea vegetables (nori akes), iodized salt, and kelp supplements. I’ve just touched on some of the important nutrients here and if you’re a faddy eater or struggle to consume a varied, rainbow coloured and highly nutritious diet than a quality vegan multivitamin and mineral may ‘supplement’ any potential shortfalls. By no means does it replace food. It may be worth booking an appointment with a qualied nutritionist if you need some tailored advice or pop into your local independent health store where you can chat to experienced advisors about supplementation and vegan wholefoods. Are you getting enough?by Mel,Bare HealthAlways consult your GP or healthcare professional if on prescribed medication or undergoing any form of medical treatment.

26Imagine transforming the entire mood of a room with just one unexpected stroke of colour – on your ceiling. That’s precisely what we did in our new home. Recently moving house presented us with the perfect, albeit exhausting, chance to give our new place a thorough makeover, painting it from top to bottom. Our journey through each room was not conned to just the four walls. We saw our ceilings as blank canvases, waiting to be infused with life. Our colour choices were adventurous: deep sage greens echoing the tranquillity of a forest, pastel purples like the soft light of dawn, dusty pinks reminiscent of blooming desert roses, and warm greys as comforting as a rainy afternoon. Taking the bold step to include the ceilings in our colour story transformed each room, oering a narrative in hues most wouldn’t dare to attempt. As visitors came and went, they quickly grasped the To paint, or not to paint, that is the ceiling!Katy O’Reganimpact of our somewhat unconventional choice. This got me thinking: why is such a design choice considered unusual? Shouldn’t it be more common? Decorating your ceiling, often referred to as the ‘5th Wall,’ is a trend that’s gaining traction in 2024.For spaces that are poorly lit or have low ceilings, softer whites or pale pastels can work wonders. These shades, especially when they complement your wall colours, can create an illusion of space and light. On the other hand, for a touch of luxury, deep blues or rich greens can add a sense of glamour. A glossy nish on ceilings can dene a space, enhancing architectural features and creating a sleek, modern look. However, it’s important to remember that surfaces with more shine can show imperfections more easily, so a smooth, well-prepared surface is essential. When it comes to choosing between glossy or at nishes for ceilings, it largely depends on personal preference. However, the reective quality of gloss paint is benecial in bouncing more light around a room, which can be particularly advantageous in darker spaces. Before you embark on painting your ceiling, consider these factors:• Evaluate the style that suits you: Bold colours aren’t a necessity. Even light or earthy shades can have a signicant impact.• Consider the room’s size: Darker colours can create a cosy feeling but might not be suitable for smaller rooms as they can make them appear smaller.• Think about the lighting: Dark colours can absorb light, so ensure your room can maintain a pleasant ambiance.• Be bold if you wish: Rooms with warm, ambient lighting can be excellent candidates for bolder ceiling colours. In summary, painting your ceiling is a daring yet rewarding choice that can vastly change a room’s atmosphere. It reects personal taste and can add a layer of sophistication to your decor. So next time you plan a room revamp, don’t overlook your ceiling – it’s a canvas that oers limitless creative potential!

27WILL WRITING • WILL TRUSTS • ASSETS TRUSTPOWER OF ATTORNEY • INHERITANCE TAX PLANNINGTelephone 01270 667 912 or visit www.sanctuarytts.comSanctuary Tax & Trust Services Ltd, 41 Lawton Road, Alsager ST7 2AAAs the cost-of-living spirals and more of our children struggle to get a footing on the property ladder it is now more important than ever to plan our family’s inheritance. The team at Sanctuary Tax & Trust explain how many families nd themselves victims of avoidable losses and why simply writing a will does not guarantee our family will inherit as we wish. For the vast majority of people, we spend all our lives working to build up wealth, through property, savings and pensions we look at providing nancial security for our families and when our nal day arrives, we hope these assets will pass to the people we care about the most, partners, children, relatives and friends. Traditionally, people have chosen wills to document their wishes and while writing a will is important, it does not provide any protection for the assets within it.Considerations when planning InheritanceCare Fees – As we live longer the likelihood of needing care becomes greater and under the government’s changes to the social care act should the need for care arise, we could see our asset taken down to just £14,250. The new assessment process will see everybody with property and savings over a combined value of £23,250 being required to pay for their care.Relationship Failure – When passing assets purely through a will we see many leaving their assets to their children but not giving consideration to what would happen if one of their children was to divorce. This can lead to a child seeing half of their inheritance in the hands of an ex-partner and in the event of early bereavement this can lead to grandchildren being disinherited.Inheritance Tax – The current IHT framework can be complex and unknowingly people can leave their children and even grandchildren with an Inheritance tax issue.Probate – The cost of probate has risen dramatically over the last few years, and it can be a lengthy and drawn-out process. On average, with a valid Will, probate will typically take 6 – 12 months to complete, without a Will it may take up to 2 years. It’s Never the Wrong Time To Do The Right Thing – While people appreciate that inheritance planning is important many will delay seeking the correct advice. By putting o arranging our aairs we run the risk of running out of time, or in the event of illness, seeing our options dramatically reduced. Why Sanctuary Tax & Trust Services? With over 20 years of experience in Estate and Inheritance planning we have helped families in the area protect their assets and plan their inheritance in the most cost-eective way. While the individual family’s circumstance may vary, the one constant is that each family aims to provide the maximum amount of inheritance possible without the stress of complex legal jargon.

28Brain fog is a term used to describe feelings of confusion and lack of focus – a diculty in putting thoughts into words. There can be many reasons, some of which I’ve listed here:• Stress and depression – There may be a link to the loss of motivation and energy that aects the ability to think clearly.Menopause – It is a common symptom to have a brain that feels like ‘cotton wool.’ Women nd it hard to retain information and become forgetful during this stage in their lives.Pregnancy – Similar to women experiencing menopause, uctuations in progesterone and oestrogen hormones in pregnancy also cause alterations in brain function.Medication – Some prescribed and over-the-counter medication can cause brain fog, possibly due to a sensitivity to some of the chemicals used.Chemotherapy – Commonly known as ‘chemo brain.’ The strong drugs used in cancer treatment may aect the ability to concentrate and remember names and dates.Sleep – is essential for optimum brain function but too much sleep can make you feel foggy. Too little sleep from disorders such as insomnia and sleep apnoea may also aect cognition.Medical conditions – associated with fatigue, inammation or blood glucose changes can cause brain fog such as chronic fatigue syndrome. Or similarly, viral infections like covid and resulting long covid.Diet – Vitamin B12 supports healthy brain function and a deciency can bring about brain fog. Also if you have sensitivity to certain foods, this may also aect brain functions.Brain fog can be the result of something relatively minor, or an indication of a more serious condition. Obviously if symptoms persist, it would be advisable to consult your doctor. So what can you do to reduce the foggy eects and help your clarity of thinking?Exercise – increases blood ow to the brain and is a great antidote to stress as it distracts us from our negative thoughts.Take a break – Have you ever focussed on a task and it’s just not working however hard you try? The solution is not necessarily to try harder but stop altogether! Take a break and go back later. Try meditating, going outside for a walk, taking a nap or doing something creative. Relaxation energises the mind.Sleep well – Maintain regular sleep/wake times, relax and wind down before bed by putting away electronic devices, avoid stimulants like coee and keep the bedroom cool, dark and calm.Eat healthily – A Mediterranean-style diet is proven to improve brain health.Social activities – benet mood and aid memory and thinking. Most importantly, do what makes you happy! A walk immersed in nature, listening to your favourite music or indulging in a totally relaxing reexology session. All can deliver positive mental stimulation and help clear your brain fog.How to Clear Your Brain Fogby Jan JohnsonReexology

32In our fast-paced, digital-rst world, it’s easy to overlook the enduring charm and eectiveness of traditional print advertising. Yet, in local communities such as ours, the unique appeal and impact of print media are undeniable. Print advertising holds a signicant, irreplaceable role in connecting businesses with their local audiences, oering a level of tangibility and personal touch that digital platforms often struggle to achieve. The Enduring Impact of Print - Print ads possess a physical presence and permanence, unlike digital ads which are often eeting. This tangible aspect allows your message to resonate more deeply with the community. When readers engage with a print ad, it’s not just a cursory glance as with digital; it’s an invitation to delve deeper, to contemplate, and potentially share with others. This leads to lasting impressions and a stronger connection with the audience.Trust in Print Advertising - Digital advertising, while ubiquitous, faces challenges like ad blockers and fraud. Print advertising, on the other hand, stands as a bastion of trust and credibility. In local settings, print advertisements, especially those featured in reputable community publications, are often viewed with a higher degree of trustworthiness and reliability. This trust is crucial for businesses aiming to build a solid relationship with their audience. The Power of Local Reach - For businesses looking to reach our communities, print advertising is more than just a marketing strategy; it’s a way to forge a direct, authentic connection with the local populace. This approach is invaluable for local businesses and is also benecial for larger brands seeking to establish a meaningful community presence. Print advertising in a community-centric publication like The Villages Mag can signicantly enhance local visibility and reputation.Cost-Eective Solutions - Print advertising oers a range of cost-eective solutions that cater to various budget sizes. It’s a common misconception that print advertising is prohibitively expensive. In reality, it provides versatile and aordable options, making it accessible to businesses of all sizes, from start-ups to established corporations.Blending with the Digital World - Print and digital marketing need not be mutually exclusive. A well-rounded marketing strategy can successfully integrate both. Print ads can be designed to complement online campaigns, creating a cohesive brand presence across multiple platforms. For instance, including QR codes, website URLs, or social media handles in print ads can drive digital engagement, while digital campaigns can highlight your print presence, oering a well-rounded exposure to your audience.A Sustainable Choice - In today’s environmentally conscious world, print advertising also has adapted to be more sustainable. Many publications, including this, are making conscious eorts to use eco-friendly printing methods and recyclable materials, thereby aligning with the values of a growing number of consumers who prefer supporting environmentally responsible businesses.Engaging a Captive Audience - Print advertising in a local magazine like The Villages Mag also ensures that your ad is seen by a captive audience. Unlike online ads which are often ignored or blocked, print ads are viewed as part of an overall reading experience, making them more likely to be noticed and remembered. The tactile experience of ipping through a magazine often leads to a more engaging and memorable interaction with your ad.Longer Shelf Life - Another advantage of print advertising is its longer shelf life. While digital ads disappear after a campaign ends, print ads in magazines and brochures can remain in circulation for weeks, months, or even years, continually reaching new audiences long after the initial publication. In conclusion, print advertising, especially in a community-focused publication like this one, oers a unique set of benets that digital advertising alone cannot replicate. Its lasting impact, trustworthiness, local relevance, cost-eectiveness, and ability to integrate with digital strategies make it an essential component of any comprehensive marketing plan. By advertising in The Villages Mag, you’re not just reaching out to potential customers; you’re becoming a part of the local community. The Enduring Impact of Print...For all enquires & bookingsCall or Whatsapp 01477 518 252Visit archpublications.com

The Dockyard BQ at Barons Quay - Games, Pizza, Burgers & Craft beer!“Can we come back tomorrow?” Always a line I love to hear from my kids. This fantastic new venue opened in November at Barons Quay in Northwich. I went along with my two daughters aged 9 and 12. It’s a great place to go as a family, to have some competitive fun, meet friends & enjoy tasty food. First o, there is a large bar oering craft beers from Mobberley Brewhouse and Hush Brew Co, which is a Nano Brewery in Northwich. Aswel as big name brands such as Madri, Coors & Guinness. You won’t struggle with a place to sit as there is lots of seating, including cosy, intimate booths, large tables for big groups, or balancing on a bar stool as you play pool. Head upstairs & there is more seating on their amazing rooftop terrace, lled with sparkly lights, views of the River Weaver, a second bar & what could be a dance oor!!To get your bums o those seats is a whole host of fun games. There are 4 pool tables for you to play on, classic arcade machines dotted around the venue, interactive darts, UV ping pong, but the highlight for us had to be the shue boards. There are 2 large shueboards and 2 smalled boards called “Bankshot Shu”.This was our rst time playing, so a member of sta kindly showed us how it works. It’s such a simple and fun game, especially when playing it with a small group. You take it in turns to slide your pucs along the board, trying to get the highest score. First to 15 wins. After playing Shu, we ordered some Days Out & Meals Out reviewsJenny,Days Out and Meals Out Reviewslunch. We had to try a pizza from Ply. This famous pizza restaurant from Manchester has a kitchen inside Dockyard. There is another kitchen by Home Town Burgers serving up amazing loaded burgers, so you really do have to try some of the amazing food on oer. We chose the “Goat” pizza, which was freshly made in their pizza ovens. It had goats, cheese, chirizo, & chilli jam and was heavenly. We got some fries to go with it and was perfect for me and the girls to share. Next, we had a go on the pool tables. The tables were all in use but there is plenty of seats to sit and wait for your turn. My girls played a game together. My 9 year old is new to pool so we were teaching her how to hold the que and my other daughter was so cute helping her take her shots. It was a really fun activity to do together even though it took her a while to hit the ball. I met and spoke to the Manager Dan, he has worked for the Dockyard chain of bars for nine and a half years, starting out behind the bar at the agship venue in Media City so this new venue is in good hands. This is the perfect place to visit whether you want to challenge your kids or your workmates.
